Egypt Prepares to host the Pan Arab Conference on WSIS

Egypt is preparing to host the Pan Arab Conference on WSIS-Phase II held under the auspices of Premier Ahmed Nazif from 8 to 10 May,2005. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and League of Arab States organize the preparatory conference before the World Summit on the Information Society is held in Tunis November, 2005.
The conference aims at uniting the Arab stance on certain issues with the participation of Arab Ministers of Communications and IT, civil society, NGOs, African Telecommunication Union, representatives from the International Communication Union and WSIS treasury.
The first session will focus on the fiscal mechanisms and policies that are used to attain development. Another session will be held on implementation mechanisms where the successful initiatives resulting from Public-Private Partnership will be presented. Two sessions will be dedicated to discussing Internet Management. Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of CIT, will lead the discussion about the future vision of Internet Management, while the second session will discuss public policies and technical coordination.
The conference will examine development in countries by measuring the levels of CIT expansion . A video conference will be held with INSEAD Business School in France in one of the sessions.
Among the key issues discussed are the Arabic e-Content, preparing for WSIS and the steps following WSIS-Phase II.
The conference sets the floor for both Arab and African participants to engage in an active dialogue to raise public awareness and interact with local and international parties for the final round of negotiations held in September 2005.
The conference closes with issuing the Cairo Declaration 2005 that assert the recommendations and the Arab-African statement.
MCIT hosts a number of meetings and conferences, concurrent to the conference. The Egyptian working group (IPv6)organizes an international conference in Cairo during 7-8 May 2005 in cooperation with the IPv6 Forum, under the patronage of MCIT. The conference will discuss the latest IPv6 uses and applications in the world and present Egypt’s experience in this domain.
Also, African ministerial committee meetings will take place with the participation of 14 African minister.
Arab delegates will also discuss the Arab stance on documents and Arab Action Plan. Recommendations will be reviewed by the Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers.
